HOW TO AVOID SWEAT STAINS AND MARKS ON CLOTHING

Ever had a perfect day stained by a sweat patch? (Pun intended)

OUR STORY

At AKT, we know all about the struggle. Founded by two West End performers, Ed and Andy, they needed a deodorant that could keep up with their intense physical schedules. But mainstream deodorants were not making the cut. Antiperspirants would stain their shirts, and ingrain sweat smells, causing them to constantly throw them away and buy new ones. NOT good for the planet, especially with our fast fashion crisis!

WHAT CAUSES YELLOW STAINS ON CLOTHES?

Don’t stain on my parade!

While many people believe it’s just sweat, it could actually be a combination of the ingredients found in antiperspirant deodorants and the chemicals in sweat.

One of the main components that cause stains is aluminium salts. Found in most commercial antiperspirant deodorants to “stop” you from sweating, this active ingredient is the main culprit of those ugly yellow stains and stiffness that you just can’t wash out!

That’s why we recommend switching to a natural deodorant like AKT! Our aluminium salt-free, natural deodorant helps you feel fresh and dry all day, without staining your clothes.

But what if your clothes are already stained…?

HOW TO GET RID OF UNDERARM SWEAT STAINS

If your clothes have already been victims of antiperspirants, we have put together a quick guide on how to remove underarm sweat stains from clothes. Be warned, it’s not just a simple hot wash.

HOME REMEDIES

Home remedies can be cost-effective and all-natural! These ideas are based on products and ingredients you can find around your house.

Baking Soda’s Secret

Almost everyone has a box of baking soda somewhere in their cupboards, but not everyone knows that this component is one of nature’s best stain removers! Inexpensive and easy to find, this is the perfect odour/stain remover and it’s safe on all fabrics.

White Vinegar: Sour but Essential

Every laundry room should be equipped with this fantastic ingredient. Gentle on fabrics and even safer than bleach and fabric softeners, distilled white vinegar is essential. Not only does it help to remove yellow underarm sweat stains and odour, but it’s also an inexpensive alternative to whiteners/brighteners and fabric softeners.

If Life Gives You Lemons…

100% lemon or lime juice can act as nature’s bleach! Due to its high concentration of acetic acid, it’s the perfect solution for getting rid of sweat patches on clothes or rust stains. Adding one cup of this ingredient when you’re washing whites will brighten and whiten your clothes. Use it directly on stains with baking soda and warm water for tough stains on whites. Another excellent use of this ingredient is to dilute it with water in a spray bottle and spray it on your underarm stains. Plus, it also works wonders for suncream stains.

PRODUCT SOLUTIONS

If you’re looking for a product-based solution, we couldn’t recommend Allavare more! In a market saturated with harmful and wasteful laundry products, Allavare stands out by offering natural, handcrafted, and plastic-free alternatives. Their products not only keep your clothes spotless and fresh but also promote healthier skin. We recently collaborated with them and got to learn about their Bette’s Stain Bar, which, combined with the rest of their lineup, makes for the best stain remover and helps your clothes feel fresh and clean. You can learn more about their products here.

HOW TO AVOID UNDERARM SWEAT STAINS

A tip for preventing stains is to choose natural fibres when possible. Materials such as synthetic fibres, like polyester and elastane, retain smells and stains, making it harder to get rid of either. Natural fabrics such as cotton, wool, and silk respond to your body’s natural temperature, are easier to clean, and can help reduce sweating.

But the best way of preventing stains is to switch your antiperspirant for AKT! Our award-winning formula Deo-Barrier Complex™ and natural ingredients provide unmatched protection without staining your clothes or causing irritation. Helping you feel fresh and dry ALL DAY. Tested on dancers, not animals, AKT outperforms expectations and is loved by fashion designers and wardrobe departments in theatres up and down the country. With 7000+ positive reviews, The Deodorant Balm will help to stop you from having to throw your t-shirts away so often. An investment in AKT will likely mean you need to buy garments less often.
