The Road to B Corp

Here at AKT London, we have been working on improving the way we do things for the better.

Sustainability has been a priority for us since our conception but you should know that we have to keep setting new targets to improve what we do. No resting on our laurels here!

Doing good reaches further than just doing the best for the planet (whilst also providing exceptional deodorant!); it’s making sure our team are taken care of, making a difference in our community and leading the way for other businesses to do the same.

One of the official ways to measure our impact is to obtain B Corp status which we have been working on for several months. But what does that mean for AKT London?

WHAT IS B CORP?

B Corporations use business as a force for good. To obtain B Corp status, businesses need to go through a rigorous assessment process to meet high standards of social and environmental performance as well as transparency and accountability.

HOW DO YOU GET IT?

This is no ‘check a box and you’re done’ scenario!

Certification can take months or even years. You need to implement changes in your business that impact the environment, your employees, society and the governance of your business. And once you do obtain B Corp status you don’t get to keep it. You need to go through the same process every three years to make sure that you’re not complacent.

WHAT DOES REGISTRATION MEAN TO US?

B Corp is more than just a shiny badge. It’s a promise to keep doing good and pushing ourselves to achieve more whilst also holding ourselves accountable to our promises.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR AKT?

In the process of working towards B Corp status, we can relax knowing that our products are 100% recyclable, cruelty free and natural but we can still make improvements.

We asked our stakeholders at the beginning of this process what was important to them and measuring carbon emissions was high on the list. Once we know how much we produce we can work on reducing those figures. Anything we can’t reduce we want to off-set.
