YOU SWEAT WHAT YOU EAT

Summer has finally made a dramatic entrance. And the sun, that hottest of spotlights, has us mopping glistening brows, trying to ignore that drip that just ran down our back and into our pants, and worst of it all… battling the dreaded B.O.

But, did you know that the smell of your sweat can be influenced by what you’re eating? According to some studies it’s not just genetics and cleaning habits, but the food we eat also has a big part in our body odour.

Although the extent to which certain foods influence this is yet to be determined, we have an idea of the ones that have the most significant effect.

Of course, a multi award-winning deodorant should be your first port of call when it comes to stifling the summer stink — but to give yourself the best fighting chance, we’ve compiled a list of the food do’s and don’ts when it comes to sweat this summer.

Bon appetit!

Red meat is known to release odourless proteins through perspiration, but when in contact with skin bacteria, the odour intensifies.

Garlic and onion. Not only will they give you bad breath, but when the bacteria of these two gets secreted through our glands and mixes with our skin, it can cause unpleasant odour.

Cruciferous veggies (such as cauliflower, broccoli…), asparagus, spicy food, and fish contain high levels of sulphuric compounds, which can lead to distinct body odours when excreted through sweat.

Alcohol can also determine body odour. As it gets metabolised into acetic acid, it releases through your skin pores and breath.

Avoiding these foods can be hard (trust us, we know!), but it’s an option for those looking to tackle body odour. For the ultimate solution, we also recommend using AKT's natural deodorant.
