HOW TO RECYCLE AKT

Recycling and sustainability are some of the first things we consider when developing a new star for our stellar line-up at AKT.

So just like the show, our packaging is designed to go on — here’s how to recycle each of our showstopping products.

ALUMINIUM TUBES

Not to be confused with aluminium chloride (the aluminium salts found in antiperspirants), aluminium metal is a recycling star — it’s completely safe to use and is infinitely recyclable without losing its quality.

Thanks to this silver wonder, our multi award-winning Deodorant Balm, The Body Wash Concentrate and The Body Conditioning Balm are 100% plastic free.

It’s something we’re really proud of, and it’s no easy feat! We had to develop our own bespoke aluminium caps, which took us years to make — it might sound simple, but it's not, promise!

Aluminium packaging recycling is easy — just pop the tube and cap in your at-home recycling with your cans and tins.

THE KONJAC SPONGE

The Konjac Sponge is the perfect plant-based solution to those horrible old sponges that do nothing but gather mould and spread dreaded microplastics into your bath water.

Made from the root of the Chinese Konjac plant, The Konjac Sponge will naturally degrade after a couple months, and can be thrown into your organic waste recycling.

THE ASSISTANT AND THE APPLICATOR

Covetable titanium-coated, stainless steel wonder tools The Assistant and The Applicator are designed to last a lifetime. So just keep yours by your side, or maybe pass them down to your grandkids, or bequeath them to an exotic stranger, whatever! But they have no place in the bin, recycling or not (however, if you and your tool must part ways, check your local recycling laws).

THE FOAMING BODY SCRUB

Our luxurious Foaming Body Scrub comes in an appropriately generous glass container for maximum scoopability (is that a word? Well, it is now) in the shower — which can be placed in any glass recycling bin.

Its aluminum lid can be placed in your at-home recycling with your tins and cans. Just be sure to remove the tiny plastic insert (an unfortunate must-have to stop the product leaking), which can be recycled at any beauty recycling drop off point — usually found in larger supermarkets or highstreet pharmacies.

THE EVERYDAY ENCORE BODY OIL

Much like the Foaming Body Scrub, The Everyday Encore Body Oil comes in a glass container, which can be recycled at any glass recycling bin.

The plastic pipette (again, an unfortunate essential for tricky oils) can be separated and placed in beauty recycling at large supermarkets or highstreet pharmacies.

ALWAYS IN REHEARSAL

As we’ve expanded our high-performance range into scrubs and oils, we’ve found ourselves out of options when it comes to eliminating plastic from our range completely.

To an extent, the wider beauty industry sets the standard when it comes to sustainable beauty packaging. We’re too small to fund our own R&D into plastic-free packaging, so we must go where the industry leads, which unfortunately isn’t that far.

For example, in developing The Everyday Encore Body Oil  we spent three years testing every plastic-free alternative we could find — from aluminium and wood, to bioplastics and even vivomers (they’re as exciting as they sound). Nothing passed compatibility testing. And creating a bespoke, non-plastic pipette required tooling and manufacturing minimums that, as a small brand, were simply out of reach.

But, we are always in rehearsal. Always looking to do better, and to be better. We’re on the road to B-Corp (we are 87% of the way there!), and will always innovate where and when we can. So we can make life changing products that don’t just perform for you, but for the planet too.
